During Artes Mundi 4 we worked with a group of nineteen young people as part of the Fairbridge (who are now merged with The Prince’s Trust) programme who were not in education, employment or training. The project, funded by the Arts Council Wales ’ Reach the Heights’ programme aimed to give the young people the motivation, self confidence and skills to change their lives.
Working with professional artist Kim Thomson, and with support from artists Ruth McLees and Claire Ferguson‐Walker, we delivered two projects over a period of six months. Each project included a chance to visit art galleries and venues to inspire them to produce their own contemporary artwork, opportunities to try out various art mediums and practical making sessions that resulted in their final artwork for exhibition. The finished artworks were exhibited for five weeks at the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, Cardiff University.
“I’ve really enjoyed it, it’s an eye opener seeing all the different pieces of art and going to the museums. I loved it all.”
