Hito Steyerl & Artes Mundi 7
Artes Mundi is sorry to announce that the artist Hito Steyerl will no longer take part in the seventh Artes Mundi Exhibition and Prize. After much consideration the artist has decided to withdraw from our shortlist for personal reasons. Artes Mundi fully respects the artist’s decision and, although we are of course disappointed, we continue to work on this extraordinary exhibition with our six shortlisted artists.
Artes Mundi Director and Curator Karen MacKinnon said:
“We are disappointed that Hito Steyerl has withdrawn from Artes Mundi 7 for personal reasons, but understand that sometimes these things happen. Life gets in the way – but we are already discussing working with Hito on another project in the not too distant future.
We have six amazing artists in the exhibition presenting a mixture of new and existing work and many UK premiers. Following the success of Artes Mundi 6 we feel that Artes Mundi 7 at the National Museum Cardiff and Chapter will be as powerful and engaging as last time”.
