The Artes Mundi Exhibition and Prize is a major contemporary visual arts event which celebrates artists from across the world. Artes Mundi is a Latin phrase that means Arts of the World.
Artes Mundi works in two year cycles and culminates in a major exhibition, held at the National Museum Cardiff, and a significant prize to one artist. Other activities include an extensive education programme, a series of lectures to coincide with the show and a community engagement programme. This will be our fourth major exhibition since we were established in 2003.
One of our main aims is to bring international contemporary art to a wider audience. We aim to choose work that is accessible and relevant to people’s lives created by exciting, emerging artists from around the world who look at the broad theme of The Human Condition. Their exploration covers such topics as
IDENTITY
CITIZENSHIP
RELIGION & BELIEF
WAR & CONFLICT
ENVIRONMENT
POLITICS
GLOBALISATION
