Sans façon is a collaboration between a French architect, Charles Blanc, and a British artist, Tristan Surtees.
Sans façon work within our environment – be it a city, an industrial area, perhaps an open space - and draw attention to the small things that make our environment what it is, encouraging us to ponder and enjoy our surroundings. “What we do is create pleasure in seeing and highlighting everyday things which can be taken for granted” says Charles of Sans Facon.
As part of the Artes Mundi 3 programme, Artes Mundi has commissioned Sans façon to create an innovative experience for Cardiff in the Spring of 2008.
Current projects include Idensitat, an installation in Priorat, Spain; Walden, a collaboration with magnetic North Theatre on the adaptation of Thoreau’s book; Parterre, a permanent work of ‘urban weeds’ in Bristol; and Millenium Promenade, a public art commission for Bristol Harbourside.
Recent public commissions include Project, Peterhead 2005 and 2006, Limelight in Glasgow 2005 and The distance between us in Birmingham 2005.
Sans façon is based in Glasgow.
Charles Blanc studied Architecture at the Ecole d’Architecture de St Etienne and Strathclyde University, Glasgow.
Tristan Surtees studied Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art.
They began their collaboration in 2001.
