Artes Mundi at the Arts and Business Awards

ArtsAndBusinessAwards Artes Mundi at the Arts and Business AwardsArtes Mundi and the sponsors of the Artes Mundi 4 Exhibition and Prize did well at the Arts & Business Awards in Wales on 12 July 2011.  The partnerships with global brands Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Starbucks Coffee Company were both recognised as excellent examples and were put through as shortlisted finalists in the Arts, Business & Brand and Arts, Business and & Employees categories respectively.  The Admiral Group won the latter category for their overall commitment to engaging with the arts to benefit their staff and for a number of creative partnerships, including a series of wide ranging activities with Artes Mundi.

Artes Mundi itself was one of just three arts companies shortlisted for the Legal & General Arts Award which recognises the organisation which has worked most creatively with business to maintain and develop its activities.  This is the second time Artes Mundi has been shortlisted for “outstanding work with a wide range of partners” , having won the overall prize in 2008.  In 2010 it was partnerships with Admiral, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, First Great Western, Legal & General, St David’s Partnership, SkyArts, Starbucks Coffee Company and the Western Mail that impressed the judges.

Artes Mundi is an internationally focused arts organisation that identifies, recognises and supports contemporary visual artists who engage with social reality and lived experience.
Artes Mundi is a research process that begins with an open call to nominate artists from anywhere in the world, leading to a biennial exhibition and prize selected from the nominations, concluding with commissions that arise from that process. The exhibition brings together a group of artists whose work stimulates debate about social and political themes.
In 2010 Yael Bartana was the recipient of the £40,000 prize awarded during Artes Mundi 4.
